Maid of honour...

Aren't maids the unsung heroes of society? Life gets crippled if they take even a day off. My efficient maid started working for me in May this year and today is the first time she has taken leave (barring the times when I am travelling and give her leave).

Since she comes a little late on Tuesdays, I didn't bother much when she didn't come at her usual time. However, two hours later, I started to panic a bit and asked around for her. Turned out she hadn't come. I remember her telling me yesterday that her children were really sick. The poor lady had probably taken them to a doctor. I hope they get better soon (what with this London-like weather of Bangalore due to some cyclone this week).

I have always been extremely thankful to her because I know how hard her job is. There was a time in my old house when I was left 'maid-less' and I must admit that a maid's job is probably tougher than any corporate job!

Anyway, today, my notion about their importance was confirmed as I stood soaked after doing a pile of dirty dishes and cleaning the kitchen (in almost thrice the time that she takes to do the same job).

And now, the sweeping of the house awaits me! Hmm, I guess I will just wait for her to come back and do it ;)
